Meeting our Members – thanks for joining us

The boardroom at Ecology's head office in Silsden.

We’ve been delighted to close 2024 with two fantastic Member Meet-ups.

Firstly, we held a face-to-face event at The Leeds Library in October, followed by our virtual Member Meet-up in December.

You can watch the recording of our virtual Member meet-up here.

As we undergo the biggest period of change in Ecology’s history, we restated our renewed Purpose, which will guide our journey from the past four decades as a start-up business to become an upstart for the next four.

We updated Members on the significant investments we’re making in the skills, systems and technology we need to grow sustainably. These exciting changes will help us increase our impact-led lending and deliver on our mission to build a greener society for generations to come.

Members heard about Ecology’s journey to Net Zero, including a summary of our current position and future targets. They were invited to share their views on how the Society can support individuals to decarbonise, save energy or support nature – any Members who’ve yet to respond can email their comments to [email protected]

We revisited the importance of transparency and reporting on pay and remuneration and looked ahead at the outlook for the Society’s financial performance over the next few years, with the projected impact of the current planned investment on our profitability, asset growth and capital position in the short, mid and longer term.

We were excited to share an update on the development of the Ecology App and the other improvements to our online services in 2025. Not only will these changes make it easier for Members to interact with us, but they’ll also help us attract new Members, increasing the positive impact we can have on society, communities and the planet.

As always, Members were invited to ask questions too. Topics included our stance on self-build and cohousing lending, what product innovations could encourage more sustainable builds, and how Ecology colleagues feel about working for the Society.

Our CEO Gareth Griffiths said: “Our Members are at the heart of everything we do at Ecology.

“I’m delighted that, over the course of these last two events, we’ve been able to speak to over 100 individual Members and hear their views.

“We’ll continue to provide more opportunities to do so in 2025 as we start the next exciting chapter in Ecology’s history.”

Thank you to everyone who attended and shared their valuable feedback.
