Self Build

Kerry and Frank have been doing self-builds for over 40 years and have started 6 projects between them.  Four were completed successfully and became their family homes for several years; one was sold and built by others; one is currently in progress.

For most of those years, they’ve been so far ahead of the curve when it comes to energy-efficient buildings that it once took 20 years to get planning permission because no-one had seen anything like it before.

The project is called Anchorage, and it’s a 3-bed Passivhaus on the bank of the River Avon in Wyre Piddle, Worcestershire.

Caroline has always lived in the Highlands, known for its beautiful scenery. She owns a quiet plot of land north of Inverness on which she developed her own self-build home, after being inspired by low-carbon living at a self-build exhibition.

Colin, a retired pilot, set out to fulfil his long-held ambitions of building his own home. Colin wanted to create a large, open-plan house that would be particularly energy-efficient, and included renewable technologies. After an extensive search and interview process, Colin appointed eco-home specialists, Allan Corfield Architects, to design his new self-build home. Given their experience of lending for self-build projects with high energy-efficiency ratings, he chose Ecology to help fund the development.
