Complaints
We aim to provide a high standard of service to all our customers. However, occasionally things can go wrong. When this happens, we want to put matters right as quickly as possible. If you have a complaint about any aspect of the service you have received, please contact us straightaway.
Copies of the Society's Internal Complaints Handling Procedures are available on request via info@ecology.co.uk, by telephoning 0845 674 5566 or by post to Ecology Building Society, 7 Belton Road, Silsden, Keighley BD20 0EE.
We are members of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). Complaints which are not resolved under our Internal Complaints Handling Procedures can be referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SR.
Central cheque clearing cycle
The central clearing cycle for cheques and automated payments is normally 3 banking days, however as the Society is not a clearing bank your cheque will take 7 banking days to clear.
Although you are normally able to withdraw against a cheque paid into your account 7 banking days from the day we have received it, this does not always mean that the cheque has been "cleared". If the cheque is not "cleared", you will have to repay us the amount of the withdrawal.
Financial Services Compensation Scheme
Ecology Building Society is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The FSCS can pay compensation to shareholders and depositors if a building society is unable to meet its financial obligations. Most individuals and businesses are covered by the scheme.
An eligible shareholder/depositor is entitled to claim up to £50,000. For joint accounts each account holder is treated as having a claim in respect of their respective share so, for a joint account held by two eligible shareholders/depositors, the maximum amount that could be claimed would be £50,000 each (making a total of £100,000).
The £50,000 relates to the combined amount in all the eligible shareholder's/depositor's accounts with the building society, including any joint account, and not to each separate account.
As a member or customer of Ecology Building Society your account(s) with us are covered by the FSCS, unless you are:
- A large company
- A large partnership
- A large mutual association
- A local, provincial or municipal authority
- A pension and retirement fund or a trustee of such a fund
- A person whose claim arises from transactions relating to a conviction they have received for money laundering
Further details of exclusions from FSCS cover can be found on the Financial Services Authority website.
